I need about 8 more hours a day!
My worst enemy is time. As I am continuously learning, I am wanting to take too much onto my plate. I have to remind myself to focus on the major project first and foremost. Since I started with our staff during preplanning, we have been in full swing. My project involves vocabulary development using explicit instruction school-wide. Two other principals at schools have asked and were given my plan to incorporate the components into their own buildings. My next challenge with staff in regards to the project is to re-energize and recognize some of their great work with incorporation. I wanted to take on another "bull by the horns" project related to climate just because it would be amazing for our school. What I have done instead, is thrown bits and pieces of the idea to key people to see if and where they would run with it. They bit. They are now working to develop a celebrating culture piece for our students. Their combined ideas have taken new life that can be something really special for the students and families at our school with administrative support. My mentor reminded me that that was utilizing teacher leaders and their strengths. I know it is not my week to blog. Yet, I wanted to test it out since I am not tech savvy. That way it would be set up. Also, I am not sure in blogging if we continue new posts on this page, or are new posts like an original post page again? Anyone know? Thanks.
Good Morning Janae. I guess we are going to find out about new post together. I am new to twitter, did not know you could have a google account, and this is my first foray into blogging.
ReplyDeleteI love how you incorporated the climate project into your school by throwing out and the idea and allowing others to pick it up and run with it. It is tempting to be the one always carrying out the vision, but like a good point guard in basketball, it's important to know when to pass the ball.
I often tell my "alphas" in gifted that they must "share the love", and cannot do everything by themselves. Sometimes is good to pause and heed our own advice. Love your analogy.
DeleteI thought I posted something but I am trying to learn this blogging thing. However, Janae, I think you are on the right track. Others have taken your work and decided to run with it. Hopefully you will be able to compare their work and your work as a comparative study.
ReplyDeleteA comparative study didn't occur to me, but that is a fantastic idea! Thanks.
