Applying for an assistant principal job
So I have decided to bite the bullet and apply for an assistant principal job out of the county I am currently in. This is a huge decision for me as I am established in the county I am currently in. Another thing is that it is in an elementary school. I have never worked in an elementary school except in a tutoring capacity. I believe this would be a good move for me and am excited about applying for it. I just hope that my student level experience is not a hinderance.
One of the questions I have is-Is the salary posted my gross salary or is what the county pays for insurance included in this.

Its the gross salary, the insurance is not included in that figure
ReplyDeleteWay to go! I do hope everything works out for you. It is scary to apply for any job much less a job outside of your county. However, doing something that is out of your comfort zone will only strengthen you as an educator! best of luck!
ReplyDeleteBest of luck to you Traci! The posted pay probably depends on the district. It sounds like you're assuming the county will pay you a certain amount that you can apply towards your insurance, which is probably the case most often. However, our insurance costs so much, and the county offsets so little, that you could anticipate a chunk coming out of your gross pay. I'm curious...do they have a separate pay scale for APs, or is it say T5 or T6 pay plus a supplement? It's interesting to hear the different ways and amounts that districts compensate their leaders. In my district, it's your regular pay (including pay for the extra summer days you'll have to work) plus a $3K supplement, which works out to about $10K more per year. Not a bad raise at all, but you'll definitely be earning every penny. Let me know if you have any questions from the elementary perspective, and again, good luck!
ReplyDeleteIt did not mention anything on the job description, so I am assuming not. I did notice on my own county's assistant principal job description it said there was a stipend. Think I will apply for that one too :)
