Do you TWIT?....Twitter for educators.

"How can I be an effective teacher in this world of technology?"  "Technology is not going anywhere no time soon."  Comments I made to myself in reflecting on things needed in order to be on my "game" with my students.  It was suggested from a colleague to go on Twitter because in her opinion Twitter caters more to specific middle school content and concerns (Pinterest has great stuff but at times can be a bit elementary school focused).  I bit the bullet and forged ahead and joined Twitter.  I'm happy I stepped outside of my comfort zone.  Twitter provides information that is trending (happening) now.  Believe it or not there are folks who share a plethora of information concerning any and everything dealing with education.  It really is a great resource for educators to explore as well as dialogue with other professionals the latest trends in the profession.

By the way, if you decide to set up a Twitter account I suggest having two separate accounts. One personal and one professional.   (Feel free to follow me @ndavisecsd)

I've included links for those still a little resistant with "something" else to do.  Links include steps on how to use Twitter.  Prayerfully you will give it a try.

  1. I joined Twitter this summer because my county uses it as a platform to share practices, research, and happenings in the county. I have been able to connect with many educators and county level officials within my county and many others. I am going to "borrow" the links you've listed and share them with the faculty in hopes to promote joining the world of tweeting!

  3. I use Twitter for educational purposes. Our county recommends that we have at least one tweet a week to share the good things that are going on in our county. I like to see what is going on in the schools and engaging activities that can be shared across the district.

  4. At the school I'm interning at, the principal recently started a "Twitter Challenge" to promote the use of Twitter by teachers. Any teacher that created a Twitter account for their classroom could earn one jeans pass for each day that they tweeted something positive about their class during the challenge week, so they could technically wear jeans all of the following week if they tweeted each day. The idea was to encouraged teachers to share accomplishments and/or praises with colleagues and parents. Many of the teachers bought-in (they'll do about anything to wear jeans), and it's really caught on. I think this is a great strategy for schools that are implementing PBIS or trying to increase technology integration. Here's a link to the template if you are interested in trying this at your school.
