What is Your School Doing to Tackle Teacher Attrition?

This past Sunday I was among a group of assistant principals who are all a part of the GAEL Aspiring Principal Program. One of the many topics discussed was the alarming teacher attrition rate in Georgia. I am sure many of you, if not all, heard about the teacher survey that the GaDOE suggested educators take in an effort to figure out why so many teachers leave the profession within the first five years of employment. It was reported that almost half of the teacher workforce responded to the survey. Of course, the survey findings were troubling to many including the state school superintendent, Richard Woods, who is diligently searching for answers. Georgia is not the only state faced with high teacher attrition rates. The District of Columbia school system is feeling the pressure as well. In fact, they are taking a drastic approach to teacher retention. Please read the article below entitled, “Keeping Irreplaceables in D.C. Public Schools.” You will find it very interesting!
